The Buildings Department (BD) today (October 17) held an award presentation ceremony for the "Building Safety Depends on All of Us" Comic Drawing Competition 2015 in the Zero Carbon Building, Kowloon Bay, to recognise the outstanding performance of the participating students.
Awards were presented at the ceremony to winners of various sections of the competition. Acclaimed local sand painting artist Hoi Chiu was invited to create a sand painting based on the three winning artworks and he gave a sand painting demonstration at the ceremony.
Organised by the BD and co-organised by the Hong Kong Education City (HKedCity), the competition targeted primary and secondary school students and aimed to increase youngsters' awareness of building safety. The event was also supported by the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art.
Almost 50 primary and secondary schools joined the competition which ran from April to late June this year. A building safety concepts and comic skills workshop organised by BD was arranged for the participants during the period.
Nearly 900 pieces of artwork were received this year. Pui Ching Primary School, Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School and Kit Sam Lam Bing Yim Secondary School each submitted over 100 pieces.
All entries were of a high standard. Building safety messages were illustrated in innovative ways and electronic games, films and ancient Chinese characters were featured in some of the artwork. The winning entries are now on display in the Zero Carbon Building till October 23. They will be later displayed in different places in Hong Kong, including the MTR Community Art Gallery and the City Gallery at Edinburgh Place, Central.
