Fight Tenancy Abuse Campaign 2015/16 launched (with photos)
***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

     The Hong Kong Housing Authority's (HA) Fight Tenancy Abuse Campaign 2015/16 was launched at Domain in Yau Tong today (October 15). The Chairman of the HA Subsidised Housing Committee, Mr Stanley Wong, the Director of Housing, Mr Stanley Ying, and Estate Management Advisory Committee representatives from various housing estates showed their support at the launch ceremony.

     Officiating at the ceremony, Mr Ying said that the Housing Department (HD) had been tackling tenancy abuse through daily estate management, biennial home visits, random checking plus in-depth investigation of suspected cases, and publicity. It is hoped that through these initiatives, cases of abuse of public rental flats can be reduced so that turnover of public housing flats can be expedited and families in genuine need can be allocated a flat earlier.

     This year, the HD has created two thematic characters, "Housing Protector" and "Housing Abuser", to help promote the campaign. The thematic characters will be visiting a number of housing estates to bring home to residents the messages to cherish public housing resources and report suspected cases of tenancy abuse. A Fight Tenancy Abuse Campaign-themed song has also been composed to help convey the messages.

     Common tenancy abuse cases include non-occupation, subletting, engaging in illegal activities, non-domestic usage and false declaration.

     Ways to report tenancy abuse:

* Call the Housing Authority hotline 2712 2712;
* Send in the Tenancy Abuse Report Aerogramme;
* Submit an online form through the Housing Authority/Housing Department website; and
* Inform estate office.
