HKETO, Brussels supports Hong Kong films at Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Spain (English only) (with photo)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) is supporting the screening of five Hong Kong films at the Sitges - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Spain, which is taking place in Sitges, Spain from October 9 to 18.  

     Established in 1968, the Festival, which specialises in fantasy, horror, thriller and action films, is considered one of the foremost of its kind in the world and attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.  

     Five recent films will be screened from October 9 to 15, namely Tsui Hark's "The Taking of Tiger Mountain", Soi Cheang's "SPL2 - A Time for Consequences", Lau Ho-Leung's "Two Thumbs Up", Philip Yung's "Port of Call" and Longman Leung and Sonny Luk's "Helios".

     Famous Hong Kong-based actor Simon Yam, who appears in two of the films, "SPL 2 - A Time for Consequences" and "Two Thumbs Up", is a guest of the Festival.

     He attended a reception hosted by the HKETO, Brussels yesterday (October 11, Sitges time) together with the Festival's Deputy Director, Mr Mike Hostench, and representatives of the international film industry and local governments.

     Speaking at the reception, Deputy Representative of the HKETO, Brussels, Miss Drew Lai, said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to providing support for the film industry and to promoting film appreciation among young people to build up audiences.

     Miss Lai said that freedom of speech and freedom of expression, as enshrined in Hong Kong's Basic Law, as well as Hong Kong's rich cultural mix of Chinese and Western influences, help to create an environment that encourage creativity and diversity.
