Transcript of remarks by SLW on wage claims by DSC employees
************************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the wage claims by DSC employees after officiating at the launch ceremony of the Family-Friendly Employment Practical Guidelines for the Catering Industry today (October 9):

Reporter: Why is the delay and how long will it take to...?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The Labour Department has been, in fact, leaving no stone unturned in processing all the applications expeditiously. We have now received 383 applications overall. In fact, up to September 25, we have issued payments to 170 applicants. So, what is going to happen? For the remaining applicants, we will do the best we can. If there is no problem over their claims, for example, if the claims are straight forward, if all the documents can be verified quickly, I am sure the Department will issue payment as quickly as possible. The Department has also deployed extra staff to cope with the workload to ensure the payments are made as quickly as possible.
