Hong Kong Museum of Art promotes school-based art learning programme
***********************************************************

To further introduce Hong Kong artists to local students, Hong Kong Museum of Art, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art, is organising the "In Touch with Hong Kong Artists - A School-based Art Learning Pilot Programme". A briefing session on the programme was held today (October 9) for visual art teachers from primary and secondary schools.

Based on the contemporary art collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the programme has tailor-made a series of learning kits and interactive activities for local secondary and primary schools, including artist interview and demonstration videos, workshops and artist sharing, which help familiarise young people with local artists.

Trial sessions of the programme were given at five pilot schools, introducing to teachers and students six experienced artists in Hong Kong, namely Chu Hing-wah, Li Wei-han, Ou Da-wei, Chan Gaylord, Liu Siu-jane and Auyeung Nai-chim. Through a series of educational activities, students were able to learn about these local artists, their techniques and the philosophies behind the creation of their artwork. Students could also create their own works inspired by the artists in the workshops.

Teachers from the five pilot schools - Conservative Baptist Lui Ming Choi Primary School, SKH St Peter's Primary School, Munsang College Primary School, St Paul's Secondary School and Po On Commercial Association Wong Siu Ching Secondary School - shared their experience at the briefing session. The teachers said the input of teaching materials by the Hong Kong artists into the visual art curriculum could help advance art education in Hong Kong.
