Hong Kong Customs detected a suspected smuggling case at Lok Ma Chau Control Point today (October 9) and seized 480 computer hard disks with a total value of about $264,000.
Customs officers intercepted an outgoing lorry for Customs clearance at Lok Ma Chau Control Point today. During inspection, officers found 480 hard disks worth about $264,000 inside a compartment at the rear axle differential unit of the lorry. The 46-year-old male driver was arrested and the lorry was detained for further examination.
Under the Import and Export Ordinance, the maximum penalty for attempting to export unmanifested cargo is a fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
