Hong Kong Disciplined Services Cultural Exchange Delegation to visit Beijing

     The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, will lead a delegation comprising representatives from five disciplined services to visit Beijing on October 8. Mr Lai will depart for Beijing tomorrow (October 7) to call on relevant Mainland authorities to exchange views on issues of common concern.

     Led by the Secretary for Security and the heads of five disciplined services, the Hong Kong Disciplined Services Cultural Exchange Delegation consists of about 120 representatives from the Correctional Services Department, the Customs and Excise Department, the Fire Services Department, the Immigration Department and the Hong Kong Police Force.

     The objectives of the delegation are to gain a better understanding of the latest developments on the Mainland and learn more about the culture of their counterparts with a view to strengthening their co-operation. The delegation will proceed to Qingdao and Shanghai before returning to Hong Kong on October 14.

     During his stay in Beijing, Mr Lai will also meet with officials from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Administration of Customs and the China Atomic Energy Authority.

     Mr Lai will return to Hong Kong on October 10.
