Nomination Period for District Council Ordinary Election starts tomorrow
*********************************************************

The nomination period for the 2015 District Council Ordinary Election will start tomorrow (October 2) and run until October 15.

A total of 431 members, one for each of the 431 constituencies in the 18 districts, will be returned. For a contested constituency, the poll will be conducted on November 22.

"A nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector aged 21 or above who has ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for the three years immediately preceding his or her nomination," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (October 1).

"A nomination form must be subscribed by 10 registered electors of the constituency concerned. Each elector is allowed to subscribe only one nomination. Details on eligibility and disqualification for nomination as a candidate are set out in sections 20 and 21 respectively of the District Councils Ordinance," the spokesman said.

The District Officers in the 18 Districts have been appointed as Returning Officers for the election in their respective districts.

The nominee must personally hand in the completed nomination form and an election deposit of $3,000 to the respective Returning Officer within the nomination period. Nominations are accepted from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays.

"Nominees are encouraged to pay the election deposit by cashier order or cash to avoid unwarranted complications arising from a cheque not being honoured. They are also advised to submit their nominations as early as possible to allow time to correct mistakes, if any, in the nomination forms before the deadline," the spokesman said.

Nomination forms are available at the District Offices or the REO at 10/F, Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. They can also be downloaded from the REO website (www.reo.gov.hk).
