The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, went to Kwai Tsing District this morning (September 30) to visit facilities under the Signature Project Scheme, a support service centre for ethnic minorities and a commercial premises revitalised from an industrial building. She also took the chance to exchange views on various matters with members of the Kwai Tsing District Council.
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Kwai Tsing District Council, Mr Fong Ping, and the District Officer (Kwai Tsing), Mr Alan Lo, Mrs Lam went to a revitalised premises, KC100, to listen to the experience of the owner in revitalising the property and tour various facilities there. Mrs Lam was glad to learn that the building could reap the benefits from the Government's initiative in revitalising industrial buildings and has turned into a quality commercial premises.
Mrs Lam then visited Ching Kwai Centre at Cheung Ching Estate, Tsing Yi. Officially opened in February this year, Ching Kwai Centre is one of the healthcare centres under the Kwai Tsing Signature Project Scheme. Accompanied by the Chairman of the Kwai Tsing Safe Community and Healthy City Association (Signature Project Scheme Partner), Mr Chow Yick-hay, and the General Manager, Mr Charles Fok, Mrs Lam was given a briefing by the person-in-charge of the Centre on its various services, including health assessments, a Nurse Consultation Spot, Chinese medicine clinics, pain management, health seminars and training for volunteers and caretakers. Mrs Lam commended the Kwai Tsing Signature Project Scheme for its community health enhancement-oriented approach, which caters for the community needs and achieves the objective of "addressing district issues at the local level".
This was followed by a visit to the support service centre for ethnic minorities in Kwai Tsing District. Operated by the Hong Kong Community Network (HKCN) with funding from the Home Affairs Department, the centre organises various classes and activities to help ethnic minorities integrate into the community. In the company of the President of the Board of Directors of the HKCN, Mr Joe Leung, and the Head of Services, Mr Fan Kwok-fai, Mrs Lam saw for herself the centre's services and facilities. She also chatted with ethnic minority residents to learn more about their living and encouraged them to use the community facilities and services.
Before concluding the visit, Mrs Lam met with some 20 members of the Kwai Tsing District Council to exchange views on development and livelihood issues in the community, including district administration, water quality, building maintenance, retirement protection, traffic and transport, hillside escalator links and elevator systems, and environmental hygiene.
