SCED speaks on tourism and mobile TV service (with photo)
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, to the media on tourism and mobile television service after meeting with representatives of the tourism sector at the Central Government Offices today (September 29):

Reporter: (On Matching Fund Scheme and mobile television service)

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I would like to answer your first question first because it would not be good for the representatives of the tourism industry to stand here while I answer the other questions. This promotional campaign would be beneficial to the industry because people who visit the tourism attractions are mostly tourists that would stay overnight and that would be higher value spending, and so that would be good for the economy of Hong Kong. We have been very used to the very robust growth in our tourism figures. What you see here is really a mixture of a lot of different factors affecting the slow growth right now, or actually some slight decline. So we really believe that we have good products here in Hong Kong that would attract a lot of tourists to come here. And so therefore I think given the right amount of publicity in marketing promotion, we could attract these tourists to come to Hong Kong because Hong Kong is a very attractive city.

Reporter: (About the court judgment regarding the judicial review on the proposed broadcast-type mobile television service of Hong Kong Mobile Television Network Limited)

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: This is a very good question. We welcome the decision handed out by the court today. We of course believe that every operator, every licensee needs to abide by the Broadcasting Ordinance as well as the terms of the licence. So we welcome the judgment today.
