2015 Hong Kong 100km Ultra Marathon cum Kwai Tsing Energetic Cup successfully held (with photos)

     2015 Hong Kong 100km Ultra Marathon cum Kwai Tsing Energetic Cup, organised by Kwai Tsing District Office with planning and execution by the Hong Kong Ultra Marathon Association (HKUMA), was held successfully yesterday (September 25) and today (September 26) at Kwai Chung Sports Ground, attracting over 500 runners participating in the event.

     The event aimed to encourage members of the public to exercise more while echoing the concept of "Promoting a healthy lifestyle" of the Signature Project Scheme of Kwai Tsing District Council (K&TDC).  

     There were three categories in the run. Individual events, divided into 100-kilometre race and 50-kilometre race, were held yesterday with runners from the Mainland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Japan, France, Korea, Taiwan, Italy, etc. The races were the first 100-kilometre and 50-kilometre Ultra Marathon track races being recognised by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) in Hong Kong and the results of the runners will be recorded in the IAU's official record.

     Today's "Kwai Tsing Energetic Cup" 3-hour relay race had teams of six, each taking turns to run for 30 minutes with the team having the longest total running distance being the champion. The teams came from different sectors in Hong Kong, including government departments, private organisations and schools, and many members of the public cheered for them at the scene.

     The Honorary Chairman of HKUMA and member of Executive Council of HKSAR, Mr Bernard Chan; the District Officer (Kwai Tsing), Mr Alan Lo; the Chairman of the K&TDC, Mr Fong Ping; the Vice Chairman of the K&TDC, Mr Law King-sing; the Director of Communication of the IAU, Mr Nadeem Khan; the Asian Representative of IAU, Mr BJ Park; member of Technical Committee of the IAU and Chairman of HKUMA, Mr Frank Kuo; and ultramarathon athlete Mr Chan Kwok-keung officiated at the ceremony.

     To tie in with the event, two seminars and four running classes were offered for free to the public, especially the residents in Kwai Tsing district, to introduce the ultra marathon and its spirit in July and August.
