Transcript of remarks by Acting S for S after FCC meeting
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Acting Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee, at a media session at Central Government Offices, Tamar, after the Fight Crime Committee meeting this afternoon (September 25):

Reporter: Is there any special arrangement to be carried out on the weekend? Are you worried that any chaos and violence will break out during the rallies and events?

Acting Secretary for Security: The Police have so far received 10 notifications about public events over the weekend. I understand that the Police will be holding a press conference this afternoon to inform the public of the overall situation of public order activities and also the Police measures to ensure public safety and public order. One thing I must emphasise once again is that whilst members of the public have the right to express their views and have the right to hold public meetings, all these expressions of views and meetings should be conducted in accordance with the law, in a peaceful and orderly manner. They should also aim at reducing the inconvenience to other road users. I think that will be something that all parties should work towards to ensure that we all live in a society that is free and orderly.

Reporter: Are you worried that there will be chaos?

Acting Secretary for Security: The Police will assess every public order event according to the risks. They are experienced in making plans and making provision for all eventualities. They will do the same on this occasion and they will have different contingency plans to ensure public order and public safety. I have full confidence in the Police's ability in this regard.
