SDEV inspects hygiene conditions in vicinity of development at Anderson Road project site (with photos)
************************************************************

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, visited Kwun Tong District this afternoon (September 24) to learn about the daily cleaning and mosquito prevention work of government departments in the area adjoining the development site of the Anderson Road project.

Mr Chan first inspected the hygiene conditions at the junction of Shun King Street and Lee On Road next to the construction site of the Anderson Road project under the Civil Engineering and Development Department. He also listened to reports by the department staff on their measures to keep the site and nearby public areas clean.

Mr Chan then proceeded to inspect the hygiene conditions at Shun King Street and was briefed by staff of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department about their work on street cleaning and spraying larvicidal oil.

Mr Chan noted that, during the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, works departments and their contractors strengthened the daily cleaning work at their construction sites, which includes implementation of pest and rodent control measures, regular reviews of the effectiveness of such measures and assessment of the performance of contractors in keeping the sites clean. In addition, the Drainage Services Department arranged for contractors to clean the underground public drains at back lanes and those connected to restaurants, public markets and hospitals. To prevent mosquito breeding, the department in particular applies larvicide in areas where high ovitrap indices have been recorded, such as stormwater intakes, in order to provide a clean and comfortable environment for the community.
