Nineteen persons in custody who completed the first Foundation Certificate Course for Pet Groomer and Shop Assistant Training at Lo Wu Correctional Institution were presented with certificates today (September 24) in recognition of their efforts.

Officiating at the presentation ceremony, noted animal lover Ms Cally Kwong spoke with the trainees about her philosophies in life and attitudes in a discussion session. Trainees were attentive and told the guests what they have learnt from the course. The session was conducted with a warm atmosphere.

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) will continue to offer various forms of market-oriented vocational training to enhance the chances of persons in custody being able to find promising job opportunities upon release.

Among the graduates is Ah Yee (false name), who will be released next year. She has completed the course and received the certificate. She said she not only learnt the skills and knowledge of pet groomer training but also how to co-operate and communicate with others, which will be beneficial to her future career. She expressed the wish that she could share with her family members the achievement. She also appealed for the community's support in giving rehabilitated persons more job opportunities.

The CSD offers more than 30 market-oriented vocational training courses to persons in custody covering construction, engineering, food and beverage, retail, business, beauty care, logistics, laundry services, information technology, environmental services, health care and transport to enhance their professional skills for reintegration into society.
