Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 816 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 64 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (September 21).
  
     During the operation, a total of 313 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
  
     A total of 677 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 139 for other traffic offences.
  
     One pedestrian and 95 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1 853 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August 2015, of which 605 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 38.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
