Housing Authority approved implementation arrangements for Redevelopment of Pak Tin Estate Phase 10
***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) announced today (September 21) the clearance of Pak Tin Commercial Centre and the adjoining Community Hall under the Redevelopment of Pak Tin Estate Phase 10 in Sham Shui Po with a target clearance date of April 2018.

At today's joint meeting of the HA's Commercial Properties Committee and Subsidised Housing Committee (SHC), members approved the granting of exgratia allowances (EGA) to the 30 eligible commercial tenants of Pak Tin Commercial Centre at 15 times the monthly exclusive rent or licence fee (exclusive of rates) as specified in the tenancy or licence agreements applicable on the date of formal announcement (September 21).

"Eligible commercial tenants of Pak Tin Commercial Centre may also choose to lease a shop stall in HA markets through restricted tender and enjoy a 3-month rent-free period. Otherwise, they may opt for a lump sum payment of $121,000 in lieu of the restricted tender opportunity," said the spokesman of the HA, adding that the supermarket tenant would be excluded from the EGA provision and the restricted tender opportunity or lump sum payment, in lieu of the restricted tender opportunity.

The HA announced in 2012 the redevelopment of the older portion of Pak Tin Estate in Sham Shui Po in phases, comprising Blocks 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 and Pak Tin Commercial Centre, so as to minimise the interruption to residents in the locality.

The clearance of Blocks 1, 2, 3 and 12 has been completed. The site vacated under Pak Tin Estate Phase 10 will be developed into a domestic block and podium with commercial facilities. A new community hall is expected to be completed in 2018 under Phase 9 of the Pak Tin Estate Redevelopment.

The Housing Department will keep in close contact with the affected commercial tenants to provide appropriate assistance as far as possible.

Meanwhile, at the SHC meeting today, members were briefed by a representative of the Environmental Protection Department on the proposed Municipal Solid Waste Charging.
