*********************************************************

To tie in with the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, the Islands District Office today (September 20) held the 2015 Clean Hong Kong Campaign (Islands District) - Lamma Island Cleanup Publicity Day. The event aimed to remind residents to maintain good personal, home and community hygiene to make Lamma Island a healthy and clean community.

Officiating guests at the swear-in ceremony included the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam; the District Officer (Islands), Mr Anthony Li; and the Chairman of the Islands District Council (IDC) and Chairman of the Lamma Island (South) Rural Committee, Mr Chow Yuk-tong.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tam said that the Government attaches great importance to maintaining environmental cleanliness and hygiene and devotes substantial resources to this work. However, sole reliance on the efforts of government departments would not suffice to keep the environment clean. He urged those who regard Hong Kong as their home and all sectors of the community to take up the responsibility to keep Hong Kong clean.

After the ceremony, the officiating guests and IDC members distributed cleaning packs to residents in Sok Kwu Wan to urge them to observe good personal and environmental hygiene. The volunteers then took part in beach cleaning at Hung Shing Yeh Beach to promote the message of keeping shorelines clean.
