**********************************************************

A week-long exhibition entitled "Hong Kong in Miniature" featuring miniature models to showcase Hong Kong's culture and lifestyle was launched in Sydney, Australia today (September 14).

Organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Sydney (HKETO), with Hong Kong Tourism Board as a supporting partner, the exhibition will be held at Westfield Shopping Centre, Sydney.

All 24 models on display were flown in from Hong Kong and handmade by Hong Kong artists.

The exhibits capture Hong Kong's unique culture and customs, featuring traditional festivals, including a one-metre tall Cheung Chau Bun Tower made from 5,000 buns and a mini-replica of the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance which lights up using optical fibres.

Also on display are models of traditional shops including a "Chinese Medicine Store", "Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree" and "Chinese Opera", which represent elements of the cityscape and daily life in Hong Kong.

The Director of the HKETO, Mr Arthur Au, said the exhibition aims to promote a better understanding of Hong Kong among Australians and to enhance Hong Kong's reputation as an international travel destination.

"These models display the uniqueness of Hong Kong's culture and heritage.  We hope the exhibition will encourage our Australian audience to see different aspects of Hong Kong," he said.

"They also demonstrate the creativity and dedication of Hong Kong artistic talents," Mr Au added.

During the exhibition period, the artists will hold three demonstration workshops to show visitors how to make miniature models by using common household materials, as well as to showcase their craftsmanship and passion for the arts.
