Hong Kong ranked first globally in economic freedom again
*********************************************************

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today (September 14) welcomed the Fraser Institute's latest report on economic freedom, which ranks Hong Kong No. 1 in the world.

"Our steadfast commitment to free market principles has once again received international acclaim," a government spokesman said.

"The Government attaches great importance to Hong Kong's economic freedom, and will strive to uphold our fine tradition of the rule of law and an independent judiciary, a small and efficient public sector, and a free and open business and trade environment, which are the cornerstones of Hong Kong's economic success," he added.

Among the five major areas of assessment, Hong Kong continued to rank first in "Size of government", "Freedom to trade internationally" and "Regulation".

"We cannot afford to be complacent and will work hard to sustain Hong Kong's institutional strengths and our position as one of the world's leading cities," the spokesman said.
