SCS and LCSD volunteer team join beach clean-up operation (with photos)
**********************************************************

More than 30 staff members and volunteer team members of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and their families and friends today (September 12) took part in a clean-up operation at Lido Beach in Tsuen Wan District in support of the "Keep Clean 2015@Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign.

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, and the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, who also joined the activity, said they were very glad that civil servants contributed their efforts to beach cleanliness during their spare time and promoted the need to clean Hong Kong through concerted efforts.

Ms Li said the department would make every endeavour in maintaining the cleanliness of public bathing beaches so that beach-goers can enjoy swimming, sun-bathing and various kinds of activities. The department also fully supports clean-up operations by community groups at public bathing beaches by offering all necessary resources and assistance to the participants, such as providing gloves and plastic bags and arranging for refuse disposal. In fact, various community organisations have already been assisting in clean-ups at LCSD beaches.

In addition, the department will continue a series of initiatives including stepping up cleaning at three gazetted beaches that are more prone to marine refuse accumulation, namely Hoi Mei Wan Beach in Tsuen Wan District and Pui O Beach and Hung Shing Yeh Beach in Islands District.

The LCSD hopes public awareness on beach cleanliness will be heightened through the Campaign. It also appeals to groups and community organisations to work together to keep Hong Kong clean.
