Permanent Secretary for Transport leads maritime delegation to visit Qingdao

     The Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Transport), Mr Joseph YT Lai, is today (September 9) leading a delegation comprising members from the Hong Kong maritime industry on a three-day visit to Qingdao. The delegation will promote Hong Kong as an international maritime centre and highlight its high value-added maritime services, including maritime legal and arbitration services.

     The delegation comprises members of the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council and Hong Kong Port Development Council, as well as representatives from the Department of Justice, Invest Hong Kong, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and others.

     During the visit to Qingdao, the delegation will take part in the Hong Kong-Qingdao Maritime Services Seminar to brief participants on the situation regarding the operation of international shipping in Hong Kong as well as the maritime law and arbitration services provided. They will also exchange views with local representatives of shipowners and logistics associations.

     The delegates will also pay courtesy calls on the Qingdao Office of China Maritime Arbitration Commission, Qingdao Bureau of Commerce and Qingdao Arbitration Commission, and will visit Qingdao Ocean Shipping Mariners College and a local shipbuilding enterprise.

     The delegation will conclude the visit and return to Hong Kong on Friday (September 11).
