Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine at Airport (with photos)
************************************************************

Hong Kong Customs seized about 1.3 kilograms of suspected cocaine estimated at $1.3 million at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (September 5) and arrested an incoming female passenger.

The female passenger arrived at Hong Kong from Manila, the Philippines. During Customs clearance, X-ray check on a suitcase carried by her revealed suspicious images. In-depth examination led to the discovery of a slab of suspected cocaine being concealed inside the false compartment of the suitcase. It is believed that drug traffickers tried to use this concealment method to evade Customs detection.

The 32-year-old woman, claiming to be a salesperson, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (September 7).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
