Government statement

In response to media enquiries, a Government spokesman today (September 5) said that the SAR Government is concerned about the impact on Hong Kong's tourism and related industries regarding the decreasing number of tourists which may lead to economic and employment problems. The SAR Government has reflected the situation to the Central Government. Since pregnant women coming to Hong Kong for delivery and bulk purchase of milk powder are not tourist activities, the Government has no intention to change the relevant policies for the time being.

The spokesman reiterated that the Government is willing to listen to any views and opinions on development of tourism and related industries, and called for the public to help maintain Hong Kong as a hospitable travel destination.
