The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting President-designate of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Mr Jin Liqun, at Government House this afternoon (August 28) to exchange views on issues related to the AIIB.

Mr Leung congratulated Mr Jin on his selection as the President-designate of the AIIB. He said that the AIIB is an important initiative by the state leaders, which would promote the development of infrastructure in countries along "Belt and Road" and other Asian countries. Mr Leung said that Hong Kong could leverage its world-class professional services, ranging from banking, accounting and legal to engineering, as well as its extensive experience in managing large-scale projects to contribute to the operation of the AIIB. He said he hoped that under "one country, two systems", Hong Kong could become a member of the AIIB as soon as possible.

Mr Jin expressed his gratitude to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for tapping its own strengths to provide various types of support for the establishment and future operation of the AIIB. He said he was confident that with the concerted efforts of all members, the AIIB would become a world-class international institution.
