Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 743 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 56 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (August 27).
 
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 326 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
 
     A total of 616 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 127 for other traffic offences.
 
     One pedestrian and 162 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
 
     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,626 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July 2015, of which 523 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 38.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
