Meet-the-Authors 2015 talks to continue from September to November
**********************************************************

Organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the theme of this year's "Meet-the-Authors" talk series is "Reading - To Broaden Our Horizons". Various authors will seek to broaden the horizons of attendees and inspire them through joint explorations of the literary world. The programme began in March and the remaining nine talks will be held from September to November at various public libraries.

The talks are subdivided into three series, namely "Read to Write", "Read from Hong Kong" and "Read the World". Young people and other interested parties are welcome to attend. All the talks will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.

The speakers for the nine talks are community cultural worker Ms Livina Lee; lecturer of the Language Centre of Hong Kong Baptist University, Mr Christophe Tong; writer Ms Lee Yi-yan; executive editor of a publishing house, Mr Tsui Cheuk-yin; associate professor of the Department of History of Lingnan University, Professor Lau Chi-pang; writer Mr Chan Tin-kuen; chief editor of the Hong Kong Heritage Project, Mr Henry Choi; co-founder of the social enterprise Walk in Hong-Kong, Mr Paul Chan, and writer Mr Cheung Tai-chong.

In the series entitled "Read to Write", on September 5, Ms Livina Lee will discuss the relationship between reading, observation and creation in the information era; on September 12 Mr Tong will discuss the favourite Japanese historical novels of his youth; on October 3 Ms Lee Yi-yan will talk about her journey in becoming a writer as well as overcoming setbacks; and on October 31 Mr Tsui will tell readers how to break through the constraints of our daily lives in order to enrich our reading and writing.

Today's bustling lifestyle often distracts us from the beautiful things and people in our surroundings. In the series entitled "Read from Hong Kong", on September 19 Professor Lau will look at publications on Hong Kong history that were released in the past 10 years; on September 26 Mr Chan will explore the diverse cultures of the world through the perspective of Hong Kong's architecture and the customs of its ethnic minorities; and on November 14, Mr Choi will introduce some interesting ways to study Hong Kong history.

Travel not only enables us to gain knowledge and vision, but also provides inspiration and ingredients for our writing. In the series entitled "Read the World". On October 10, Mr Chan will reflect on his travel experiences and share his novel method for writing travelogues; and on October 24 Mr Cheung will inspire readers to connect with others and the world in general through reading.
