SFH receives report on North Lantau Hospital incident
*****************************************************

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, today (August 21) received a report submitted by North Lantau Hospital (NLTH) on a medical incident in which a 62-year-old man fainted outside the hospital on August 8. The man subsequently passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Dr Ko learned that the Hospital Authority (HA) has accepted the findings and recommendations of the report. The HA has asked the management of NLTH to put in place the measures concerned to enhance the co-operation and capability of the hospital staff in handling cases of this kind in future.

Dr Ko said, "It is important that the HA headquarters and its clusters can learn from the incident and avoid recurrence of similar cases.

"I understand that the incident has attracted a lot of public concern over the capability of HA staff in handling emergencies, but I firmly believe that they are working earnestly and passionately and learning from experience. They are also trying their best to serve Hong Kong people."

The incident has been referred to the Coroner's Court for further enquiries.
