SJ visits Shanghai FTZ (with photos)

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, this morning (August 21) visited the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) to understand its operation and the legal services measures implemented in the zone.

     Mr Yuen met with the Deputy Director of the FTZ Administration, Mr Zhu Min, and representatives of related law firms. They had constructive exchanges on the liberalisation measures on legal services implemented by the FTZ, the operation of Mainland and Hong Kong law firms in association, and the promotion of Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution services in the FTZ.

     Mr Yuen attended a seminar on legal co-operation and exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong at the Shanghai High People's Court in the afternoon to further promote legal exchanges between the two places.

     This seminar was jointly organised by the Supreme People's Court, the Legal Education Fund Limited and the Department of Justice. Fifty Hong Kong law students, who were participating in the summer internship programme organised by the Legal Education Fund Limited, attended the seminar.

     These students studied China law in the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing and visited government authorities in the past six weeks. They also took part in internship at courts in Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou. Mr Yuen also attended the graduation ceremony of the internship programme in the evening.

     Mr Yuen will meet with officials of the Shanghai Bureau of Justice tomorrow morning (August 22) and return to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
