Wo Hing Construction Company Limited, Kin Kay Machinery Rental & Engineering Company Limited and a sub-contractor were fined $60,000, $64,000 and $64,000 respectively at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (August 10) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Lifting Appliances and Lifting Gear) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on July 11, 2013 in Yuen Long. A worker was trapped to his death by collapsing soil while conducting manual-digging of a tunnel below road surface.
