Cinematic Theatre's "The Feast" to reflect on the meaning of eating
************************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), local theatre company Cinematic Theatre's latest production "The Feast" will be staged in September.

For the second part of a series entitled "People's Living", Cinematic Theatre is exploring the issue of food from the four primal concerns of the Chinese - clothing, food, shelter and transportation - by placing them in the context of contemporary Hong Kong and exploring related social phenomena. The first part of the series, "My luxurious 50 square foot life", received wide acclaim in 2014.

According to a Chinese saying, "Food is the paramount concern of the people." This shows how much importance the Chinese attach to eating. Some say eating is part of life's enjoyment, and delicious food is just irresistible. But how many resources are wasted in order to gratify the glutton's appetite? When all that children in poverty-stricken third world countries can eat and drink every day are bits of roots and bark and tainted water, should we approach and reflect anew on the meaning of eating? At the same time, what is the nutritious value of the food produced by manufacturers? How many chemicals are present? What is the amount of pollution incurred by slaughtering a cow? Does industrial manufacturing and agriculture follow fair trade, hygiene, environmental and moral principles? Under globalisation, what are the effects of toxic food? How do food manufacturers profiteer? In short, how can eating be good and healthy?

The play is written by Lo Ching-man, Kin Chiu, Brooke Mak, Ji Hei, Owen Kwok and Yau Ka-wai, and directed by Lo Ching-man. The cast includes Fee Chan, Grad Leung, Leung Wai-kong, Kitty Lo, Stephen Leung, Owen Kwok and Leung Ka-yu. Pak Yiu-charn and Wong Ming-lok will make guest appearances in the show.

"The Feast" by Cinematic Theatre (in Cantonese) will be staged at 8pm on September 25 and 26 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on September 26 and 27 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Multi-media Theatre of the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity.
