**********************************************************

The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li, visited Dunhuang today (August 4) and signed a Letter of Intent on Co-operation with the Director of the Dunhuang Academy, Mr Wang Xudong, to further strengthen cultural exchange and collaboration between the two sides and to promote Dunhuang culture, in order to enhance Hong Kong people's understanding of Chinese history and culture.

Both sides agreed to continue holding thematic exhibitions on Dunhuang culture in Hong Kong, to organise joint education and promotion projects to enhance understanding among Hong Kong people and especially the young generation of the art and culture of Dunhuang, and to carry out co-operation in digitisation of Dunhuang relics and development of multimedia programmes to showcase the art and culture of Dunhuang caves in diversified ways.

In addition, both sides agreed to enhance mutual exchange and training of professionals in the areas of exhibition planning, publicity and conservation of relics. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) hopes to organise another exhibition on Dunhuang culture again in 2018.

The "Dunhuang - Untold Tales, Untold Riches" exhibition, jointly presented by the LCSD and the Dunhuang Academy last year, was well received by the public, attracting about 200,000 visitors. Running from November 28, 2014, to March 16 this year at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the exhibition showcased about 120 sets of invaluable exhibits. It was the largest exhibition of its kind ever held in Hong Kong.

The exhibition also received an impressive response from the education sector. The LCSD collaborated with the Education Bureau to arrange special visiting sessions for schools to provide a comprehensive learning platform for students and teachers to learn in detail about the splendour of Dunhuang culture.
