The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, the US, is about to close. The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, today (August 2) complimented Hong Kong athletes for demonstrating the oath, "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt".

The Hong Kong delegation has completed all the competitions and won a total of 124 medals, comprising 59 gold, 41 silver and 24 bronze. The Special Olympics is the world's largest sporting event for intellectually disabled persons. The competitions are structured through divisioning, so that athletes compete with other athletes of similar ability in equitable divisions.

"Hong Kong athletes have worked hard and made unwavering efforts to achieve their goals. They fully demonstrated their indomitable perseverance and strong determination to fight for the best results. We applaud their unremitting spirit of making a breakthrough," Mr Lau said.

The Hong Kong Special Olympics delegation will return to Hong Kong on August 4.
