***********************************************************

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, joined a fitness exercise with members of the public to share the fun and benefits of doing exercise at the Hong Kong Park Sports Centre on Sport For All Day 2015 (SFAD) today (August 2).

     To promote "Sport for All" and encourage people to exercise regularly, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) held SFAD today and offered a wide range of free programmes at designated sports centres in the 18 districts. Various fee-charging leisure facilities were also opened to the public for free use.

     Accompanying Mr Lau in the activities were the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li; the Acting Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Leisure Services), Mr Donald Choy; the District Officer (Central and Western), Miss Cheryl Chow; and the Vice Chairman of the Central and Western District Council, Mr Chan Hok-fung.

     The guests first viewed a demonstration of fitness exercises by the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China (HKPFA), before joining members of the public to do a set of simple exercises, "Easy Fitness Exercise for All", which has been specially designed by the HKPFA to tie in with the theme of SFAD this year, "Fitness for Health".

     Mr Lau also watched a wheelchair basketball competition for the disabled and able-bodied, parent-child mini-games played by families, a towel exercise, a social dance and table-tennis demonstrations during his visit.

     SFAD has been organised by the LCSD for the seventh consecutive year to promote sport for all. The Department offered some 190 free recreation and sports programmes at designated sports centres in the 18 districts today, ranging from health talks and exercise demonstrations, to fitness corners, parent-child sports programmes, sports participation sessions, and sports activities for people with disabilities.

     The LCSD also made available the majority of its leisure facilities for free use by the public today, which was another major attraction. These included:

* Indoor leisure facilities: badminton courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, netball courts, volleyball courts, squash courts, table tennis tables, billiard tables, sport climbing walls, bowling greens, golf facilities, fitness rooms, cycling tracks, activity rooms and dance rooms;
* Outdoor leisure facilities: tennis courts, tennis practice courts, bowling greens, batting cages, sport climbing walls, archery ranges, and golf facilities (excluding camp facilities, sports grounds, and artificial and natural turf pitches);
* Public swimming pools (excluding Wan Chai Swimming Pool); and
* Craft at water sports centres.

     To garner further support in the community, the LCSD has invited the 18 District Councils, national sports associations and community sports organisations, as well as major residential estates, privately run sports clubs and property management companies to organise activities and offer facilities for the public and their residents/members to enjoy today.

     SFAD 2015 is co-organised with the Department of Health; the Sports Medicine Team of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK); the Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of CUHK; the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China; the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; and the Hong Kong Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability.
