*********************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited Wong Tai Sin District this afternoon (July 30) to exchange views with members of the Wong Tai Sin District Council and the Wong Tai Sin Youth Development Network as well as tour a community centre and an integrated services centre.

The district visit started with a meeting with members of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, during which Mrs Lam listened to their views on local affairs and livelihood issues, including housing, healthcare services, community facilities and planning, drinking water quality, transportation and barrier-free facilities.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, Mr Li Tak-hong, and the District Officer (Wong Tai Sin), Mrs Angel Choi, Mrs Lam then received a briefing by core members of the Wong Tai Sin Youth Development Network at Tung Tau Community Centre, and exchanged views with them on youth matters. The Wong Tai Sin Youth Development Network enhances young people's knowledge of the community's history, economic development and cultural features via three perspectives, namely understanding, serving and contributing to the community. Mrs Lam said she was pleased that outstanding youths and students in the district have been enthusiastic in organising various volunteering services and taking part in community activities, demonstrating the popularity of such activities among young people.

Later, Mrs Lam chatted with residents participating in the community cultural and recreational activities held in the hall of Tung Tau Community Centre. The Wong Tai Sin District Arts Council, which organised the event, is committed to promoting cultural and recreational activities in the community, enhancing residents' interest and knowledge in culture and the arts, and encouraging residents to be involved in community activities. Mrs Lam thanked the Wong Tai Sin District Arts Council for organising cultural and recreational activities in the community, providing a platform for residents, organisations and schools in the district to unleash their arts potential.

Before concluding the visit, Mrs Lam went to the Salvation Army Chuk Yuen Integrated Service at the Chuk Yuen Estate Community Centre. The Service Supervisor, Ms Ramy Chak, introduced Mrs Lam to the centre's services for the elderly and families. Mrs Lam also talked to young service users in the centre to learn more about their views on life planning. She commended the centre's devotion in helping young people face the challenges on the path of growth and in daily life through community support services.
