"Creative Hong Kong" thematic exhibition to be held in Beijing (with photos)
*******************************************************

The Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing (Beijing Office) will stage a four-day creative exhibition on Hong Kong in Beijing from tomorrow (July 30) to showcase the strengths of Hong Kong as a city for business, a centre for creativity, a diversified platform for culture and the arts, and an environmentally friendly place for ideal living.

Entitled "Creative Hong Kong", the uniquely designed exhibition received an overwhelming response in Tianjin when it was held there in mid-June, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors. In view of the great popularity of the exhibition, the Beijing Office has decided to stage the thematic exhibition in Beijing and Shenyang as a roving series.

A spokesperson for the Beijing Office said today (July 29), "We have commissioned a noted Hong Kong brand to design and build the exhibition with a view to presenting Hong Kong in a more creative and lively approach. The collaboration will also showcase Hong Kong's creative talents."

The spokesman added, "Hong Kong is renowned for its achievements in creative industries. Creativity has been integrated into the daily lives of Hong Kong people and nourishes the growth of the city, and has shaped the attitudes and facets of life of Hong Kong people. The exhibition aims to create an atmosphere in which visitors can come into direct contact with and experience Hong Kong's creative ambience while enjoying the fun of the exhibition and its related activities."

Occupying an area of 270 square metres, the magical and fun-filled "Creative Hong Kong" exhibition is formed by two uniquely designed gourd-shaped "hulu" houses, each measuring 5.5 metres in height and 6 metres in diameter. "Hulu" symbolises richness and blessings in traditional Chinese culture. Upon entering the "hulu" houses, visitors will be greeted by giant fabric artworks specially created to tie in with the four distinct themes of the exhibition - "Business", "Creativity", "Culture" and "Greening".

In addition, the showground is decorated with 10 human-size figures of the lead characters of the brand. Visitors are welcome to take pictures with these figures. Creative souvenirs are also available for free distribution to visitors.

To further enrich visitors' experience, "I Love Hong Kong" workshops will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the exhibition area. Admission is free. Participants of all ages can opt to create fabric dolls or colour pictures.

The "Creative Hong Kong" thematic exhibition will run from tomorrow to August 2 from 10am till 10pm daily at the North Atrium, Lower Ground Level, Glory Mall, 18 Chongwenmen Outer Street, Dongcheng, Beijing.

After the Tianjin and Beijing stops, the exhibition will be staged in Shenyang. The Beijing Office has been organising various kinds of promotional activities to introduce Hong Kong and its latest developments to the people of the 10 provinces/municipalities/autonomous regions under its purview with a view to enhancing their knowledge and understanding of Hong Kong.
