Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire to make Hong Kong debut in September

     Highly acclaimed Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire will make his Hong Kong debut in September.

     The recital will be held at 8pm on September 8 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The programme will include Mozart's "Piano Sonata No. 11 in A, K. 331", Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 32 in C Minor, Op. 111", Prokofiev's "Visions Fugitives, Op. 22" (excerpts), Granados' "Quejas, Ó la maja y el ruiseñor" (from "Goyescas"), as well as Chopin's "Barcarolle in F-sharp, Op. 60", two "Mazurkas, Op. 17, No. 4 & Op. 56, No. 2" and "Ballade No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 52".

     Born in Boa Esperança, Brazil, Freire is now a renowned musician. He made his first public appearance at age 5 and was awarded the Dinu Lipatti Medal in London at 19. He later won first prize at the International Vianna da Motta Competition in Lisbon. He was referred to as "the young lion of the keyboard" by The Times newspaper after his London debut and went on to international fame.

     Noted for his vigour and ability to play a wide repertoire of classical and Brazilian piano music, he has toured the most important cities and halls of Europe and the United States as well as South and Central America.

     Freire is also a recipient of many prestigious decorations including Citizen of Rio, Knight of the Order of Rio Branco, Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres, Medal Pedro Ernesto and Medal of the City of Paris.

     "Piano Recital by Nelson Freire" is one of the programmes in the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Great Music 2015 series. Tickets priced at $150, $220, $320 and $420 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
