Discover the Basic Law exhibition now at Metro City Plaza in Tseung Kwan O (with photos)
************************************************************

The "Discover the Basic Law" multimedia interactive art exhibition moved to Metro City Plaza in Tseung Kwan O today (July 18). It is open to the public until July 24.

The artworks on display were created by 18 students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), who used the Basic Law as a source of artistic inspiration. The exhibition showcases a total of 25 artworks including illustrations, installations, typographic designs, sculptures and motion graphics.

The largest exhibit is a sculpture entitled "Book of life". With Basic Law inscriptions on two open pages, the book forms the foundation of two trees with branches showing the words "Rights" and "Freedoms". This shows that under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's rights and freedoms are protected and can be further developed.

Another eye-catching artwork resembles a giant padlock. Entitled "Lock", the sculpture is an artistic version of the Central Government Offices building standing on top of the lock, symbolising the Government's obligation to protect property rights under the Basic Law.

A fun activity for the visitors is to "discover" the hidden content, such as motion graphics, within several "blank" video screens using special hand-held viewing glasses.

Members of the public can also see the artworks on the Discover the Basic Law website at www.discoverthebasiclaw.gov.hk or via the mobile app "Discover the Basic Law".

Organised by the Information Services Department in partnership with the HKDI, the exhibition aims to promote a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the Basic Law. It is one of a series of roving exhibitions to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law.

The exhibition is being held at the Atrium, Level 1, Metro City Plaza II, 8 Yan King Road, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories. The opening hours are from 10am to 10pm. Admission is free and souvenirs will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis.

The next exhibition will be held at Oasis Gallery (ex-Central Market) at 80 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong from August 14 to 27.

The Discover the Basic Law roving exhibitions will be staged at different venues until the end of the year. Upcoming exhibition dates and venues will be available on the dedicated website.
