Flamenco superstar Sara Baras to perform in Hong Kong (with photo)

     Celebrated for her brilliant footwork and captivating stage presence, Sara Baras, one of Spain's most popular flamenco stars, will bring her company to Hong Kong to perform her latest work, "Voces, Suite Flamenca", in September.

     Choreographed by Baras and performed by Baras and her company, "Voces, Suite Flamenca" is the perfect showcase for her huge talent, building to a truly spectacular free-form finale. The performances will be staged at 8pm on September 25 and 26 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on September 27 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall.

     "Voces, Suite Flamenca" is a large-scale production involving 15 performers on the stage and the hugely entertaining, colourful and vibrant show captures all the emotion, drama and passion of flamenco. The work is a tribute to great flamenco artists who have inspired Baras such as Paco de Lucía, Camarón de la Isla, Antonio Gades, Enrique Morente and Carmen Amaya.

     Sara Baras' artistic career began more than 20 years ago, and has led her to perform in theatres all around the world. She was trained by many great masters including her most important teacher - her mother Concha Baras. Between 1988 and 1998, she was a guest dancer with Antonio Canales, Eduardo Serrano ("El Güito"), Rancapino y Familia, Merche Esmeralda, Javier Barón, Paco Peña, Paco Moyano and Manuel Morao. In 1998, she set up her own dance company, Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras. She has won most of the important flamenco awards in Spain and has featured in an array of films.

     "Voces, Suite Flamenca" by Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $180, $280, $400 and $520 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for the group booking package. A post-performance talk (conducted in English) by Baras will be held after the first performance.
