Following is a transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Housing cum Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA), Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, at a media session after an internal briefing of the HA today (July 16) on excessive lead content in drinking water at public rental housing estates:
Reporter: Can you tell us a bit more about the scope of the committee? What is going to be set up? How to restore public confidence?
Secretary for Transport and Housing cum Chairman of the HA: The review committee that is going to be set up under the Housing Authority is to do a thorough, comprehensive body check of our existing system and mechanisms for quality assurance of materials and parts used in public housing projects including prefabricated components. The review committee will also look into how we supervise works at various stages of the construction process, so this is going to be a very comprehensive review of what we are doing. If the committee discovers any inadequacy, then of course we have to make necessary changes and improvements.
