Water samples to be taken from public rental housing estates completed since 2013
************************************************************

Considering that some water samples collected in two public rental housing (PRH) estates, under the Housing Authority, completed since 2013 were found to contain lead beyond the World Health Organization (WHO) limit, the Chairman of the Housing Authority, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, said today (July 15) that he had instructed the Housing Department (HD) to take water samples from all other PRH blocks completed since 2013 for lead testing.

Professor Cheung emphasised that conducting such sample tests was simply to ease residents' concerns, and not because evidence had been found pointing to unacceptable lead levels in drinking water there.

Though Kwai Luen Estate Phase 1 was completed prior to 2013, it is also included in this testing exercise since water samples had been taken in Kwai Luen Estate Phase 2 (which was completed since 2013) and five out of 44 samples were found to exceed the WHO limit on lead levels.

The list of the PRH estates for testing of water quality is attached.
