Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

Leighton Contractors (Asia) Ltd was fined $87,000 at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (July 15) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on July 2, 2013, in Tsuen Wan. A formwork worker fell about 2 metres to his death from a metal tubular scaffold to the ground while dismantling wooden formwork on the newly constructed concrete wall of a building.
