Hong Kong Customs smashes drug packaging centre (with photos)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (July 14) seized a total of 4.4 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds, with a value of about $860,000, and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia in Tai Wai. A 47-year-old man was arrested.

     Officers of the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday intercepted a man in Tai Wai, and found in his rucksack a total of 0.5 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds that were concealed inside tea packets. The man was later escorted for a search in a residential premises nearby and on a light goods vehicle. A total of about 3.9 kilograms of suspected cannabis buds and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia were seized subsequently.

     The man, claiming to be a transportation worker, was arrested for drug trafficking. The case is still under investigation.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
