SHA compliments Hong Kong athletes at Summer Universiade

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, complimented Hong Kong's athletes for their successful attendance and outstanding performances at the 28th Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea, which came to a close today (July 14). He noted that at the Universiade the Hong Kong athletes got to interact with tertiary students from around the world. He also expressed special thanks to the heads of the delegation, coaches, working staff and families of the athletes for their participation and support.

     "Hong Kong's athletes have demonstrated sportsmanship and strived for excellence in the Universiade. They are role models to the young and we take pride in them," Mr Tsang said.

     With Stephanie Au's success in the Women's 50m Backstroke, the Hong Kong delegation scored one silver medal at this year's Universiade, while she and three other Hong Kong athletes broke five records of the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China:

* Athletics (Men's Long Jump): Chan Ming-tai
* Swimming (Men's 200m Freestyle): Kent Cheung Kin-tat
* Swimming (Men's 200m Breaststroke): Kwok Ka-fai
* Swimming (Women's 50m and 200m Backstroke) Stephanie Au Hoi-shun
