Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 884 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 55 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (July 13).
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 319 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
     A total of 767 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 117 for other traffic offences.
     One pedestrian and 86 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,376 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to June 2015, of which 450 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 35.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
