Police strongly condemn law-breaking behaviours
***********************************************

Several organisations held public events on Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Mong Kok yesterday (July 11). During the events, some participants of different groups disputed and scuffled with each other.  Police separated them and gave repeated advice and warnings, including displaying warning banners, to urge them to express their views in a peaceful and rational manner but they refused to comply.  They shoved and obstructed Police officers at scene and caused disturbances to other road users and shops. To ensure public safety and public order, Police took resolute actions, including using pepper spray to stop the unlawful violent acts.

Police arrested one man aged 22 for "disorderly conduct in public place".  In addition, a woman was suspectedly shot in the leg with an air gun and sustained leg injuries in the pedestrian precinct. She was sent to hospital for treatment.

Police strongly condemned the unlawful behaviours of protesters. Police will conduct follow-up investigations and will not rule out the possibility of further arrest action.

Police reiterate that we respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly. It is the policy of Police to facilitate all lawful and peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and public order. Resolute enforcement actions will be taken against any illegal acts to preserve public order and safeguard public safety.
