Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

Welcome Construction Company Limited was fined $100,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (July 8) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Confined Spaces) Regulation and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on June 8, 2013, in Central. A worker collapsed inside an existing underground sewage pipe while he was conducting pipe lining repair work. He was certified dead later on the same day.
