Immigration Department follows up on fire incident in New Taipei City of Taiwan
**********************************************************

Regarding media enquiries concerning the fire incident in New Taipei City of Taiwan, the Immigration Department (ImmD) today (July 2) responded as follows:

The ImmD is very concerned about the fire incident in New Taipei City of Taiwan, and has been following up with the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO).

The ImmD officers deployed in Taiwan visited the three injured Hong Kong residents still in hospital in Taiwan today to understand their latest condition and assist their families. Families of two of them revealed that the injured would stay in hospital in Taiwan to receive medical treatment and not fit for medical transfer back to Hong Kong in the short run. The remaining injured is the female earlier reported to have been living with her family in Taiwan and is now pursuing studies there. Her family indicated that the injured would stay in Taiwan.

The ImmD will keep close contact with HKETCO and the families of the victims to render practical assistance according to their wishes.

Hong Kong residents traveling outside Hong Kong who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of ImmD at (852)1868.
