Secretary for Justice to visit Beijing

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, will visit Beijing from July 3 to 6 to mainly attend the inaugural ceremony of the Zhonghua Research Institute of Judicial Studies and the first summit on Zhonghua judicial studies.

     Established by the China Association of Judges and related academic institutes, the Zhonghua Research Institute of Judicial Studies is a professional academic institute which mainly focuses on the studies of judicial theories, systems and practices across the strait, in Hong Kong and in Macau. Under the theme "The history, present and future of Zhonghua judiciary", the first summit on Zhonghua judicial studies will examine the cultural traditions and modern values of the Zhonghua judiciary, compare the judicial systems in the four places across the strait, and discuss the challenges ahead as well as the development and prospects of exchanges and co-operation.

     Mr Yuen will deliver a keynote speech at the summit to share the experience of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in international and regional judicial co-operation, and look into the future of judicial co-operation of the four places across the strait.

     During his stay in Beijing, Mr Yuen will meet with officials of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council to discuss issues of mutual concern.

     Mr Yuen will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon of July 6.
