Immigration Department follows up on fire incident in New Taipei City of Taiwan

     Regarding media enquiries concerning the fire incident in New Taipei City of Taiwan, the Immigration Department (ImmD) today (July 1) responded as follows:

     The ImmD is very concerned about the fire incident in New Taipei City of Taiwan, and has been following up with the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) (HKETCO).

     Having assisted two of the injured to leave Taiwan for medical treatment, ImmD will assist another injured to return to Hong Kong for medical treatment this afternoon according to the wish of her family, for which coordination has been made by the ImmD with the relevant parties.

     The ImmD officers deployed in Taiwan will continue to visit the remaining injured Hong Kong residents there and assist their families. The ImmD will continue to keep close contact with HKETCO and the families of the victims to follow up the incident and render practical assistance.

     Hong Kong residents travelling outside Hong Kong who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of ImmD at (852)1868.
