The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels), together with the Immigration Department (ImmD), is launching a series of dedicated seminars in Europe to promote Hong Kong's enhanced measures to attract talent, professionals and entrepreneurs to work and stay in the city. The first event is being held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, today (June 29, Amsterdam time).

Three ImmD officers from Hong Kong are joining the seminars to introduce the enhancements to the admission arrangements for talent, professionals and entrepreneurs. They are also highlighting the pilot scheme for the second generation of Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents who have emigrated overseas to return to Hong Kong, and are answering specific questions.

The Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Miss Alice Choi, said that in view of its ageing population and shrinking labour force, Hong Kong like many other economies is seeking to attract and retain talent, professionals and entrepreneurs from outside for its sustainable economic development.

"We would like to attract those armed with skills, knowledge and experience from all over the world to work and live in Hong Kong, including the second generation of Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents who have emigrated overseas," she said.

The enhanced talent admission measures were announced by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, in his 2015 Policy Address to adopt a more proactive approach to recruit talent and professionals from outside Hong Kong.

Today's briefing in Amsterdam will be followed by others in Luxembourg (June 30); Antwerp, Belgium (July 1); Barcelona, Spain (July 2); and Dublin, Ireland (July 3).

HKETO, Brussels will continue to campaign on all fronts to attract talent to come to Hong Kong to develop their careers or to launch or expand their business.
